Biography

Mr Duff is a Consultant in Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery. He has interests in hand and upper limb surgery with a particular emphasis on major nerve disease and injury and neurofibromatosis (type 1) surgery. He has experience with common hand conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, myxoid or ganglion cysts, trigger finger, Dupuytren’s disease, trauma and arthritis in the hand. Plastic surgery offers a wide scope of practice and Mr Duff also has an interest in major reconstruction which presents from many other surgical disciplines, such as thoracic, general, and orthopaedic surgery. Mr Duff is an active member of skin cancer multidisciplinary teams and is a member of the Manchester Cancer Skin Pathway Board. He is a quality assessor for the National Cancer Action Team (NCAT).

Mr Duff is the Regional Training Programme Director for the Plastic Surgery Specialty Trainees under Health Education North West (HENW). Trainees wishing to apply for training posts in the North West are directed to the HENW website. Recruitment is currently run by the London Deanery. Mr Duff has an interest in teaching and, as well as training core and specialty trainees, regularly tutors Trainees for the FRCS Plast and the BSSH Diploma in Hand Surgery.

He was appointed to the department in 2007 following a fellowship in Hand Surgery at the Royal Orthopaedic, Selly Oak and Children’s Hospitals in Birmingham. He trained as a Plastic Surgery registrar across the North West and Trent regions from 2000 to 2006. He held a laser research post in Bristol at the Laser Centre of the South West after initial plastic surgery training in the West Midlands and Bristol. He qualified FRCS Plast in 2005 and FRCS Ed in 1997.
